Water Effect Tutorial

This tutorial is for Animation Shop 3. Please note that the end result icons arent small enough to use on Livejournal, because I've used higher quality settings to show how they should look idealy.

For this tutorial, I'm going to use a small, 100x100, icon sized image:

Load the image into Animation Shop:

Select Effects>Insert Image Effect... from the top menu.

Another window will open. Select 'Underwater' from the drop down menu at the bottom of the window.

You need to edit the effect length, and frames per second. I've chosen 5fps, with 1.2 secs for the length. You can change this. The way I've done it means I'll have to delete a couple of frames once I've finished doing the effect in order to use it as a Livejournal icon.

Click on 'Customize...'

Mimic these settings for now. The sunlight 'Effects' and 'Liquid properties' are the sections you dont need to edit much once you've got the settings similar to mine. The 'Waves' however, define the entire thing. With the settings as shown here, the image will turn out like this:

Here are some examples of different settings you could use, and the effects they produce:

You can also increase the amount of waves, or offset the X/Y values, if you want to. It's entirely up to you. This is one of those effects that the more you play with it, the more interesting the effects you discover. Have fun with it!
