Transparencies Tutorial

This tutorial is for Jasc Paintshop Pro.

For this tutorial, we are going to make an image with transparencies. Something like... this:

Now, it looks complicated, doesnt it? But dont worry - the only thing we're focusing on for this image, is the transparency.

In order to create the transparency, you need to take the original image, and colour whereever you want it to be transparent, with a bright solid colour that doesnt appear anywhere else in the image. For example:

Now then, you've got that sorted, right? What you have to do now, is save it:

Save as>Options...>Run Optimizer...

Once you've got to the Optimizer, it should look like this:

1. "Area's that match this color" - make sure that the colour selected in the box is the background colour you want to be transparent.
2. Make sure the tolerance is between 15 and 20.
3 & 4. These are the other tabs you need to look at.

Colors tab:

You need to mimic the settings on this tab. The Dithering can be moved between 100 and 90 to get the desired effect. Any lower, and you risk alot of quality loss.

Format Tab: All you need to do in the "Format" tab is to make sure that "Version 89a" is selected.

You can now click "OK" and save the image. Now you're left with that wonderful image you wanted in the first place!
