Gradient
Text Tutorial
This tutorial
is for Jasc Paintshop Pro. (Screencaps are from PSP8)
For this tutorial,
we're gonna create a bit of text, using a gradient fill, like this:

It's a very easy
way of creating cool text effects. First, you need to open the image you want
to create the text on - you can use an already existing image, or create a
blank canvas. Then you need to select the text tool ( )
. You need to set up the colour palette so instead of having a block colour
selected as the background colour, you have a gradient colour. Like this:

Outlined in red
on the above image is the icon that indicates you have a gradient selected.
There are loads
of different gradients availible for you to use. You can also create your
own, or edit them if you like. I used an electric blue one because... it was
the last one I'd used, so it popped up as default, but you can use any of
the gradients that you like. Just click on the gradient example, and it'll
show you lots of examples. When you click on it, you'll see an example box
like this:
Here, you can
change the "Center Point" or "Focal Point" if you want
to - I like it in the middle, so it gives a nice dispersal of colour. You
can change it if you want to. You can also change the style, so the gradient
goes from left to right, or so it comes from the middle in a circle, or a
square, or goes around in a nifty clock style... but anyway, if you want to
change the actual Gradient colour you're using, click on the little arrow
next to the current gradient selected. There's loads availible, here are a
few examples:

So, once you've
chosen your gradient, you can create the text! I also like to have an outline
around gradient text, to "keep it in" as it were, but you dont have
to use one if you dont want to. The outline is created by using a "Stroke"
at at one pixel in width. This tends to be a bad thing to use for outlines
in smaller fonts, so I only use it when I'm using large fonts. I also select
Anti-Alias for this.
Just click on
the canvas and write whatever you want. I wrote the site name in the finished
version above, because I can, but you can use whatever you want. For example:

So, yeah, it's
as simple as that! You can of course add some cool effects ontop of it, s'up
to you. Here's another example, which includes some pixel effects, dodge effects,
and motion blur:
