Colourizing
Tutorial
This tutorial
is for Paintshop Pro. (These caps are from PSP8, but they are basically the
same in PSP7)
How to make colourizing
effects like this one:

Now, thats a
very complicated colourizing effect, which involved using alot more than just
colourizing! So, we're gonna start by just using the basic image (without
Ron & Hermione cut out, 'cause thats very tricky to do!):

Now, what you have to do is duplicate the background.

Now on the top layer, you have to colourize it. This is fairly simple to
do:

When you click that, another window will pop up.

You need to set it so that lime green appears in the hue section (at around
65), and so that the saturation is on full. If you want a more subtle effect,
just lower the saturation.
Now the image will look like this:

Now, in order to make it easier on deleting the appropriate areas of this
layer to make Harry, et al's faces the right colour, you should hide the top
layer. You do this by clicking on the eye symbol on the layer palette, like
this:

When the eye on the layer you want to hide had a red cross on it, it means
the layer is hidden. You need to use the Selection tool, set on Freehand Selection
as Point to Point to select areas around Harry's face. I'm not going to do
Hermione & Ron's faces, because I'm lazy, and it's time consuming. Before
making any selections or deleting said selections, you should duplicate the
green colourized layer, just incase you go wrong; it'll make things easier,
rather than having you go back and re-colourize or make you go around selecting
loads of stuff again.
Your selections should look like this:

Now make sure that you have the top (green) layer selected before you delete
the selection. When you're done, it should look like this:

As you can see, thats a very rough delete! To clear it up, you should use
the eraser tool to soften the deleted edges. It takes alot of practice! Once
you've cleaned up the edges, it should look like this:

Of course, I've also colourized Harry's eyes to make them a gorgeous green colour
(as they should be!), but thats just adding tasks...! You can also do the same
with Hermione and Ron if you like, just to perfect the exercise, or do something
entirely different to see if you can duplicate the results. Have fun!
